Schools, which is an independent school
specialising in acting and musical theatre in
London. He has been acting for over twenty years.
Before launching his career as an actor, he
worked as a road manager with rock bands. For

Q. Does Glenn
prefer singing or acting? How did he get into the
musical theatre?
A. When he is singing, Glenn prefers acting, and
vice versa. He is trained as an actor, and he has
long considered acting as his professional
priority; however, music is in his heart and he
would love to perform his own songs full time; he
has been writing songs since he was a child. He
first entered the musical theatre when a
director, who had seen him act in a play, asked
him to do a musical role.

A. He enjoys both the acting and the technical
side of filmmaking. Whether on stage or in film,
Glenn looks for roles that test and challenge him
as an actor.

does he live now?
A. Glenn was born in England (in Staffordshire),
but he grew up in Liverpool. "Scouser"
is slang, meaning a person who is a native or
inhabitant of Liverpool. Glenn's home is in
London. He has also lived in New York City while
appearing on Broadway or recording.

A. Glenn's birthday is 27th March. He doesn't
reveal his age because it can be restricting to
an actor to do so; people could feel that he can
only play roles in which the character is the
same age as he is in real life.

A. Glenn is single. His parents are both
deceased. He has two brothers: His older brother,
Russell, is an engineer; his younger brother,
Scott, is a songwriter and musician.

A. Glenn has two cats, Bella and Jerry. They stay

A. He has blond hair and blue eyes.

always had long hair, or did he grow it long for
his role in JCS? Does he have his hair permed or
coloured? What products does he use to keep his
hair in such good condition?
A. Glenn has had long hair for much of his adult
life, although he cuts it as necessary for acting
roles. For example, it was cut for his role in
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat." His hair is naturally curly, not
permed. His hair colour is natural; he does not
have his hair coloured and he does not have
highlights applied. He uses the hair treatment
Sebastian� Potion 9™.

vegetarian? Why does he drink so much water? What
are his favourite foods?
A. Glenn is not a vegetarian. One reason why he
drinks a large amount of water each day is to
hydrate his vocal cords. He enjoys trying many
kinds of foods. His favourite sweets are
chocolate, marshmallows, and ice cream.

smoke or drink?
A. Glenn does not smoke. He does not drink
alcohol, other than an occasional glass of wine
at dinner.

sports fan? Has he ever played sports?
A. Glenn is soccer fan; he roots for the
Liverpool Football Club. Glenn played soccer when
he was younger, but he received a knee injury
that forced him to stop playing.

Q. Did Glenn
enjoy playing the role of Jesus in Jesus Christ
Superstar (JCS)? Was it a difficult role? Why was
he chosen to play Jesus?
A. Glenn enjoyed his role in JCS because it was a
challenge for him every day; he had to portray
difficult emotions, and the brutal, violent
demise of a human being. The songs that Jesus
sings are difficult and complex, covering an
extremely wide vocal range; furthermore, when
Jesus sings, the music virtually stops, leaving
the singer technically exposed. The role was also
very physical and emotionally draining. The
director, Gale Edwards, chose Glenn for the role
- not only for his strong and beautiful voice -
but because he is a committed, courageous, and
passionate actor who was willing to go to his
"dark places".

Q. What is
Glenn's favourite song in JCS?
A. His favourite song is "Gethsemane."
He feels that it is one of the finest songs ever
composed for a leading man; it is brilliantly
written and melodically a beautiful tune.

Q. Did playing
Jesus make Glenn more spiritual? What are his
religious beliefs? Is he a Christian?
A. For Glenn, when he played the role of Jesus,
his perspective was as an actor playing a part.
He was portraying a man trapped in difficult
circumstances. He feels that the story of Jesus
is an important, relevant story because Jesus was
a man persecuted for his beliefs, which is a
situation that still exists too often in all
parts of the world today. He believes that Jesus
was a great man with a valuable message; he also
believes that Buddha, Muhammad, Moses, and other
prophets had equally important things to say.
Glenn has a personal faith, but he does not feel
the need to classify it.

Q. When Glenn
played Jesus being thrown down the stairs, did it
hurt? Was is difficult? Did the crown of thorns
hurt? How did he achieve the effect of hanging on
the cross? Did it hurt?
A. Glenn trained and used his knowledge of judo
to fall convincingly down the stairs in JCS. It
was a difficult stunt, and he was occasionally
bruised. He was sometimes scratched by the crown
of thorns. He is prohibited by a legal agreement
with the producers of JCS, the Really Useful
Group (RUG), from divulging the secret of how the
crucifixion effect is done. The crucifixion scene
was somewhat uncomfortable for Glenn, but it did
not hurt.

Q. Why did
Glenn have his chest waxed/shaved for the film
version of JCS? In the stage version, how did he
clean off the blood and bruises fast enough to
appear for the curtain call?
A. The producers wanted a clean innocent look for
Jesus so Glenn removed all his hair. For the
stage production, Glenn had the fake blood
cleaned off with wet towels before the curtain
call, and he then covered himself with a large
red robe; the special effect makeup for the
bruises did not come off so easily (he washed it
off later in the shower).

Q. Who are the
fans who come to this site? What are the ages of
Glenn's fans?
A. Glenn's fans come from all walks of life; they
are professionals representing many fields,
students, and homemakers. There are fans here of
all ages, generally ranging from teenagers to
people in their 50s. The thing they all have in
common is their admiration of Glenn's acting,
songwriting, and singing.The fan club
now has members in over 51 different countries!

Q. When was the
Web site started? Who are "Sue" and
"Stu"?
A. The Web site, glenncarter.com, was inaugurated
in June, 2000 but never really
got going until September. Stu is Glenn's friend,
music and business partner. He started the site
to maintain Glenn's profile in the UK while he
was away in the US. Sue Harris had been a friend
of Glenn for many years. When the Fan Club was
started, there was only one choice over who
should be its secretary. Sue now co-ordinates the
Fan Club activity while Stu deals with the
business.
