Glenn Carter


Glenn Carter is a successful British actor and singer/songwriter. He recently starred in the role of "Jesus" in Andrew Lloyd Webber's and Tim Rice's Jesus Christ Superstar (JCS) in London's West End and on Broadway in New York, at the Ford Center. He received the Drama League Award for his performance in JCS. Gale Edward's revival of JCS received a Tony Award nomination for Best Revival of a Musical. Glenn also starred in the film version of JCS, available for purchase in DVD and VHS, and broadcast on PBS stations across the U.S. on Great Performances. Glenn has appeared in leading roles in many other West End productions, including Whistle Down the Wind, Hamlet, Les MisÚrables, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Grease, Chess, Godspell, Alfie, and Merrily We Roll Along. Glenn's work in film also includes a leading role in Two Days, Nine Lives.

Glenn has performed as a singer in the Prince's Trust sponsored by Prince Charles at London's Albert Hall, at the Saint James Trust, at the opening of the first professional world rugby championship at Wembley Stadium, in the 54th Annual Antoinette Awards (Tony Awards) at Radio City Music Hall in New York, and in other venues. Glenn's television performances and also include Les MisÚrables 10th Anniversary Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, Bernadette Peters in Concert at the Royal Festival Hall, Ten Glorious Years, The Travelling Man, the Today Show, and the Rosie O'Donnell Show. He opened the Zootopia Fest, sponsored by WHTZ/Z100 Radio at Nassau Coliseum in the U.S., and appeared in other radio performances. Glenn has appeared in over twenty-five Andrew Lloyd Webber Concerts and several Royal Variety Performances. He is featured on various cast recordings, including Jesus Christ Superstar, La Cage aux Folles, Grease, and Mack and Mabel. Glenn has been a songwriter for Phonogram and Arista record labels in the United Kingdom. A CD of Glenn's performances of his and brother Scott's own original works, Three Miles High, is available on this Web site. He is currently in England working on a new CD, in which he will perform his own songs. He recently recorded with Whitney Houston's producer in New York. Glenn was trained at the Arts Educational Schools, which is an independent school specialising in acting and musical theatre in London. He began his acting career as a repertory player at the Nottingham Playhouse; he has been acting for over twenty years. He first entered the musical theatre when a director, who had seen him act in a play, asked him to do a musical role. Glenn is trained as an actor and he has long considered acting as his professional priority; however, music is in his heart and he would love to perform his own songs full time. He has been writing songs since he was a child. He plays saxophone, keyboard, and guitar. Glenn collaborates with his brother, Scott, in songwriting.

Glenn was born in England (in Staffordshire), but he grew up in Liverpool. Glenn's home is in London. He has also lived in New York City while appearing on Broadway or recording.
